The suspended seat has become the industry's default answer to rough terrain. Most major brands offer one. Most buyers accept it. And on the surface, it makes sense; the operator gets cushioned, the worst of the jolts are softened, so that's the job done. Right? Except it isn't.

How Full Suspension Actually Works

Ferris has been building independent suspension into ride-on mowers since 1998, longer than any other manufacturer. The IS^® and ISX^™ systems use automotive-style coil-over shocks at the front and rear, so each wheel moves independently of the chassis. When a wheel hits a bump, the shock absorbs the impact before it ever reaches the frame, the deck, or the operator. The cutting deck itself is mounted on a reactive system that floats in harmony with the wheel movement, raising and lowering in sync to maintain a consistent cutting height across uneven ground and prevent scalping.
